Hi, I'm Niki! I’m a clinical social worker, and I was working as a geriatric psychotherapist pre-Covid. Frequent themes that I encountered in therapy sessions included trying to cope with anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, and feeling a lack of purpose. For so many people, the pandemic only worsened these challenging emotions–or planted the seeds of them where they had not previously existed.

When Covid hit, I was pregnant with my daughter. Following her birth–and amidst the ongoing pandemic–I put my practice aside to be a stay-at-home mom. It was a challenging time for me–but throughout it all, I found plant care to be incredibly therapeutic.

I founded Potted with Purpose to share this beneficial pastime among the older adult community. Potted with Purpose collects, fosters, and donates houseplants for seniors who are homebound, lonely, seeking a meaningful project, or in need of something cheerful to lift their spirits. Plants are distributed in the local area by partnering elder care providers.
